mature.by.ndesign is run by Mie and Akeno, making FreeStyle Libre covers and diabetes accessories with a distinctly Japanese design sensibility — the kind of kawaii warmth that turns a medical device into something you actually want on your arm. Designing a special edition for them meant my doodles travelling somewhere my Totoro-loving younger self would not have believed.
Sensor covers matter more than they look. A CGM is on your body 24/7, visible at the pool, at school, on the train. Making it something to decorate rather than hide changes the relationship — especially for kids. It stops being a patch you explain and starts being a patch you show off.
