FreeStyle Libre 3: Alternative Sensor Sites

The FreeStyle Libre 3 (and the newer 3 Plus) is Abbott's smallest sensor yet, streaming real-time glucose readings to your phone every minute. One question comes up constantly in the community: can you wear it somewhere other than the back of your upper arm?

The honest answer: the back of the upper arm is the only site Abbott has clinically validated and officially recommends. Everything else is off-label — people do it for practical reasons (rotating sites, sport, sleeping comfort, sensors catching on clothing), but accuracy can vary, and it's genuinely a personal call made at your own discretion.

Rather than hand out a placement guide from behind a keyboard, here's someone who actually tested it: Jack (@jackabetic) tries a range of alternative sites and compares them against the official arm position — funny and honest, as always.

Watch it as one person's experiment, not a how-to. If you do explore alternative sites, go carefully, compare against a finger prick — especially in the first 24 hours on a new spot — and never make an insulin decision from a reading you're not confident in. And whatever you're deciding about your own setup, your diabetes care team is the right place to take it. The sensor is a tool; your judgement matters too.
